Would you like to erase the brain-washing that Monopoly-type games have caused over the years?

Haha, monopoly is a terribly designed game (game can continue 50 turns after the win is inevitable, very basic strategy), but I don't think I've met someone who was unwilling to play Dominion or Ticket to Ride because there was no dice rolling.

Without sounding TOO much like a pick-up line, are you 18+ years old, easy-going, and have any interest in learning a game that you've never played before?

Yes, yes, and I already have a long list of games I've learned from going to game empire for their game nights. I was excited to see 3-5 games I'd never heard of as the flagbearers for the meetup

If you have played a game before, would you be willing to show other members how to play?

That duty usually falls to me in our group. I don't think I have any particular talent at it, but whenever someone else tries, they seem to do it worse, so maybe I am ok at it. Maybe it is just impossible to explain Race for the Galaxy in one go.

Would you be able to appreciate the ideals and mechanics of the game, thus thwarting your original plans of solely annihilating your competion? Don't worry, you're still scheduled for world domination the following day ;)

I'm having a little trouble parsing this one. Is it asking if I can enjoy a well played game, even if I don't win? Yes, gaming would be a pretty dire pursuit if you only enjoy winning. Is it asking if you would do something within the rules but maybe against the spirit of the game to win? That's a pretty thin line. For example, when we play munchkin, some of the cards are somewhat ambiguous, and we always try to use the cards "as intended." But in another case, there was a carcassonne type game, where you place tiles and claim ownership of territory, but it was much easier to steal territory. The game also didn't have any restrictions on where you could place tiles. So I put them at the edge of the table so they couldn't be stolen. Personally I would have ruled that the game takes place on an infinite plane, so it wouldn't be an exploit, but I can't fault anyone for playing optimally given bad rules.

Though all areas are welcome...do you live in the College Area? If not, what part of town you're coming from, stranger?

I'm from the Rancho Bernardo area.

  • Well, it looks like my mother-in-law will be coming on saturday and i have duty on wednsday, so I'm thinking Thursday. We wouldnt be playing too long and the time would probably have to be around 430pm or so. i get off work at 3pm. i was thinking that thursday would be used as a character generation/ get to know the party kind of day. i suggest that everyone bring thier Players guide, any extra character sheets and any figurines that you would like to use. let me know if this is good for you

  • great! i would prefer something like friday or saturday so we can play late if needed, but any day is good as long as we play. i am in the navy so ever so often i will have duty and will have to plan around that day, usually 1 every 10 except this first month the boat is back. next week is really busy for me so maybe the week after we can all get together to at least build characters and discuss what we are all looking to get out of this gaming group. let me know when is good (date/time).

  • hello. i am looking to start up a gaming group to play at my house. i already have a few adventure arcs for the forgotten realms setting that i am dying to run. i can DM as well as play. i tend to lean towards high magic and action but love to role-play too. hope to hear from you soon.
